The South Central Calhoun Drama Department will be presenting the play “Curse of the Cobra’s Kiss” by Craig Sodaro on Friday March 27th and Saturday March 28th at 7:30 each evening. 21 thespians will be taking the stage at the high school auditorium each evening where they will take you back in time to 1923 on the outskirts of the Egyptian city of Luxor and into the home of Professor Tommy Towers. Towers has unearthed the treasures of the tomb of King Rottenlux and hopes to claim his fame and fortune with his discovery. The audience will be involved... literally, while they help solve one of the most hilarious mysteries of the 1920s. The discovery of King Rottenlux’s tomb has brought together some of the world’s most illustrious people. Assembled at Professor Tommy Towers’ estate are his wife, his jealous secretary, a n’er-do-well nephew with feuding girlfriends, a ruthless Hollywood director, two vengeful movie starlets, a mysterious fortune teller, a secretive graduate assistant and rival reporters. Is it any wonder that the wealthy Professor quickly meets his end when a cobra injects him with poison? A second member of the party is carried off to the tar pits by the ghost of King Rottenlux himself! A third member of the gathering has seen something and tries to tell super-sleuth Jessica Maples. Unfortunately, the poor girl dies before she can reveal her secret. Not to worry. Jessica, with the help of the great detective, Hercules Porcchop, uncovers the secrets hidden by the guests. Tons of magical fun awaits in this original, one-of-a-kind fractured fairy tale farce! A kind king (Gage Rohlfs) and queen (Anna McChesney) have trouble in their royal family — four obnoxious, bratty, adult children who do not live up to their royal titles. There’s the mean Princess Cinnamon (Cara Voorde), the not-so-bright Princess Peppermint (Cassidy Voorde), the vain Prince Hairgel (David Wedemeyer) and Prince Slacker (Austin Olberding), who thinks being a prince is just way, way too hard. The king and queen try everything to bring happiness and harmony to their family. They hire a royal therapist (Ellie McChesney), bring in royal teachers and even attempt to marry off their children, all to no avail. The king and queen are ready for a happily-ever-after that doesn’t include adult children still living at home, so they call upon the fairy godmother (Gracie Hungate) to help. However, after learning the outrageous cost of hiring the fairy godmother (let alone the permits required), the king and queen decide to create a do-it-yourself fairy tale with the help of supplies purchased at The Enchanted Depot. Royal chaos! Of course, nothing goes as planned, but everyone is changed by their experiences. And through a serious of haphazard events, the royal family just might live happily ever after, after all. “Haphazardly Ever After” is on stage at the South Central Calhoun High School Auditorium on Saturday, August 2 at 7:30 PM and Sunday, August 3 at 2:00 PM. Tickets are available from cast members and at the door at $5.00 adults and $3.00 students. Other students in the production are Riley Snyder, Maggie Armstrong, Jacob Nicholson, Kimberly Daisy, Delanie Westcott, Morgan McChesney, Kennadie Machovec, Reagan Rohlfs, Tate Steig, Holly Hammen, Aiden Westcott, Hannah Nielsen, Tatum Rohlfs, Tori Ellis, and Kiersten Morrow.
